At Broadway we pride ourselves on being a friendly church. If you come to one of our Sunday morning services, there will be volunteers waiting to greet you at the door and a staffed information desk if you have any questions.
We try to mug all first time visitors -- by giving you a coffee cup filled with information about Broadway and the various programs and activities we offer.
What to Expect
If you visit a Sunday morning worship service at Broadway, there will be people to greet you when you enter the building. The main level is up half a flight of stairs from the entrance, there is also an elevator.
You will see people dressed in suits and dresses and you will see people dressed in shorts (in the summer!) and blue jeans. Most people like to dress up a little on Sunday morning, but we'll be happy to see you whatever you're wearing.
As you enter the sanctuary, ushers will greet you and give you a worship bulletin. This contains the order of worship -- a guide to the service including the text of prayers that are prayed in unison and page numbers for the songs that the congregation sings together. The hymnal (songbook) is located in racks on the back of each pew.
As a visitor you are welcome to join in the prayers and singing, if you wish.
The service lasts about an hour.
On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate the sacrament of communion. Visitors are welcome to receive communion. Unless special instructions are given, communion will be served at the front of the sanctuary. If you wish to receive, come forward as the ushers direct you. The person who serves you the bread will say "The body of Christ broken for you." The proper response is "Thanks be to God" or "Amen." After you receive the bread, move to the communion rail. There will be individual cups of grape juice in the rail. After you drink the juice, place the cup back in rail. You may remain in prayer, kneeling or standing at the rail, for as long as you desire. One of the pastors will be standing to the left of the communion area if you wish to be anointed with oil for blessing or healing.
